Well, it hasn't been to busy. I got two orders since I embarked
on going totally freelance.
I have a
spring fair that I will be promoting my art work in April. So overall, things are off to a slow but good start. I hope to have enough orders to keep me busy on a steady basis and I know that shall come to pass very soon. They always say becareful what you wish for. So I'm off to finish off this House Drawing for a client.

Just wanted to post my sketch for this weeks "I Spy".
I will be painting this and re posting the final image later.

Let me know your thoughts!

"Sunset"
I finally finished this piece. I had gotten the idea clipping images from magazines for my source book. I love looking at images and recreating them into something new. Lately, I find myself being very inspired to work on many portraits and caricatures. This year made me realize that sometimes you really have to zone into the work you do and trust that God will lead you to the right path. I am struggling with trying to market myself and trying to get work and build my career as an illustrator. But, at the same time I had to take a breather to do what counted most and that is to keep creating. Success will always follow when you trust in yourself and what life has in store for you. Hope you guys enjoy. Let me know your feedback.

Guess Who? Hint: She loves books and recently she shared with America her biggest dream of opening a school for future leaders.

Yes_ It's Oprah Winfrey! Let me know your thoughts. I have been trying to digitally paint my caricatures instead of using colored pencils and I think I'm hooked.

And before I leave! I just wanted to say Happy Birthday to my little one!!!! Your getting to big for me! 2 years old!!! Oh Boy! ....

Illustration Friday _ Hide

About a month ago, I had attended a children's book fair in Philadelphia, PA. For the short time I was there I was inspired to really come to grips with a lot of thoughts of where I wanted to take my career as an artist. I found myself thumbing through beautiful books and than I found a wonderful book called, "Moses" written by Carole Boston Weatherford and illustrated by one of my favorite illustrators Kadir Nelson. My illustration does not do any justice compared to how he beautifully illustrated the story of Harriet Tubman. But, it really inspired me to really take my illustrations to another level.

There was a part of the book where Harriet becomes very tired from the long trip to cross free territory as a runaway slave. While Harriet gains strength she begins to hear God speak to her. She hears that patrollers are grabbing runaway slaves so she hides in a potato hole. She prays to God asking, ...
"... Have you deserted me, Lord? Harriet, when you were a girl, you hid in a pigpen to shun the whip. You fought hogs for table scraps, almost starved before you faced the lash. I am with you now as I was then. ... Lord, make me strong, Help me fight.

... After seven days, Harriet rises from that hole like a sapling, reaches for the sun as if to touch God's hand. By moonlight, she marches on, making her way mile after rugged mile, hiding in haystacks, attics, and barns, holding God's hand all the while. She often wearies. How far, Lord? As far as you can walk with me, my child, and I can carry you. ..."
